Historical Background

The Igbosere High Court was the oldest and most notable colonial judicial building in Nigeria. It was originally called the Supreme Court with its jurisdiction limited to Lagos and its existence dates back to the period of cession of Lagos to the British Government when Lagos was identified as a British Protectorate.

The High Court housed the Supreme Court of Nigeria before it was relocated to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. At the creation of the Federal Supreme Court, the Lagos Supreme Court became High Court of the Federal Territory Lagos. Hon. Justice Conrad Idowu Taylor (aka JIC Taylor) became Chief Justice of the Court on the 22nd day of July 1964, who was the longest serving chief judge of Lagos State.

Other notable individuals who have sat in the court include Justice Adetunji Adefarasin, Justice Muri Okunola, Justice George Oguntade, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivor, amongst others. It is probably one the most discernable colonial building legacies in the justice system in the country.

Project Brief

The Iga Idunganran PHC alone takes care of the healthcare needs of 1% of the estimated 4.5 million people who only trade and commute to and from the Lagos Island local government area per year. This amounts to an average of 45,000 non-community residents per year and an average of 123 persons per day. The restoration and upgrade of the Iga Idungaran PHC project officially commenced in March 2022.

The project included the rehabilitation of the PHC facility, installation and upgrade of all MEP systems, expansion and inclusion of additional offices/clinics and introduction of new services which include an ENT Clinic, Eye Clinic, Dental Clinic and a proposed Radiography Clinic.
